DESCRIPTION: APW - Hamilton, Grade 940 first s# made, "The W.L. Park, Special" marked mvt and dial, 21J, 18S, gold-filled OF original Cashier case, white enamel DS dial with refinished center portion, SW-LS, ornate nickel damascene, s#48106. This watch has the distinction of being the first Grade 940 serial number out of over two hundred thousand (200,000) Grade 940 that were eventually made, as this watch is the first serial number from the first run of Grade 940 production which spanned serial numbers 48006 to 48300. This movement also has a spectacular fancy damascene pattern that is the first of its type which we have seen. From the well-known Hamilton collection of Robert Bennett of Olivehurst, California.
CONDITION: Mvt: Running, excellent-plus cosmetic mvt condition overall, bright lustrous surfaces, fine scratches around case screw positions, few micro-fine scratches elsewhere; dial has had its center section refinished and exhibits the altered surface appearance typical of the refinishing process, seconds-register and outer chapter have not been refinished, dial with few micro-fine scratches to seconds-register and outer chapter, very small sliver of fill material visible at portions of seconds-register junction to other dial segments; excellent mismatched hands, hour and minute are blue, seconds-hand is plum colored; case shows hardly any wear, no dents or dings, superb engraving detail; tight somewhat brassy bow, crown shows light wear; good glass crystal.
